On The Writing Table; Sell Fish Forever:
Maurizio Marconi grew his one-man, one-boat commercial fishing business into an international seafood distribution company. He was rewarded through his life with tremendous wealth. On the one-year anniversary of his death, his four children have gathered on his sailing yacht, the 125’ Oyster Flybridge, named Sell Fish Forever, for a farewell celebration of life. Maurizio was a peculiar sort and having started a family well into the growth of his business, he felt it was appropriate to name his children after his most profitable catch from the sea. His first child, a son, was gifted the unfortunate name, Flounder. Undaunted and starved for his father’s approval, Flounder dedicated himself to following Maurizio into the business. Next, came a daughter, Halibut. She, as soon as kindergarten, insisted she be called, Hali. Two more sons followed soon thereafter, Salmon and Pollock. Salmon took Hali’s example and insisted he be called Sal. Pollock struggled for years to get others to shorten his name to an acceptable Pol, “pronounced Paul”, he could, often, be heard to say. In a subtle admission of the challenge his children faced, Maurizio started calling himself, Moray.
